Is breakfast really a make or break for a hotel decision?
For me, a free meal allows me to stay longer and stretch the budget even further. I'm not a big business traveller - one or two short trips a year on the company's dime, always earning FF miles and hotel points, of course). I'm a middle class kinda guy (one income family) who chooses to live within my means, so no debt except for my mortgage. I also choose to "give back" by donating more than 10% of my income to charity each year as well. Because of these choices, there is often not much budget left over for vacations. I'm not complaining, just explaining.
But thanks to kind people like PGary, Gary Leff, and the FT community, I'm able to turn an hour or so of my free time each week into some free flights and free hotel stays for our family.
...Now if only I could finagle a free/cheap rental car. My conscience still won't let me use corporate discount codes for a company I don't work for.
