I'm glad you brought this up. I'm flying ATL-LHR on Delta in 2 weeks and realized that I'm in the same situation. I did a little research and found a few things:

Secure Flight Rules Regarding Name
Your name must match LETTER FOR LETTER what your government issued I.D. shows. If the name on your I.D. is "William Quincy Jones" then the name on your ticket cannot read "William Q Jones". Prefixes such as Ms., Mr., Dr. or Rev. are not allowed under Secure Flight, regardless of what is on your I.D. Suffixes such as Jr. and III are not allowed under Secure Flight, regardless of what is on your I.D.

And this on page 1 in the first table:

Alphabetic, no numeric or special characters, except dash ( - ) and single quote ( ‘ ). Do not include suffixes (e.g., jr.). Truncate names longer than 35 characters to 35 characters.
