Thank you ACYYZ/SD. I have, on a few occassions mentioned this to the crew and a couple of times they have stated that they have no control over the volume. If I remember correctly, this was told to me on a CRJ.

I'm guessing that when the crew is standing, their ear level is above the speakers and to them, the volume level sounds fine, yet we the pax have our ears just inches away from the speakers overhead.

Let me be the first to say that this may seem a trivial concern, yet I feel it is one that could easily be rectified if in fact it is a concern of many FFs.
