So I recommend practicing placing your carry-on in the sizer box beforehand so when the time comes when asked to use the sizer, it does not appear that you are trying to force it in, but by knowing how to fit it in, it will probably pass and be allowed on board.

I second that.
I have a Voctorinox case (don't know model/line, bought it in a sale in Selfridges a few years ago) and have the same problem. If I try and drop it straight into the sizer, it will not go, but if I sort of "hook" the first wheel in and then straighten it up, it falls into the sizer fine.
I am a little concerned about the 763 lockers on my upcoming trip, always thought they are a little small on non AA aircraft that I have been on, what are they like on AA aircraft?
