I think this thread is more about the ease of upgrading with SWUs, and ability to upgrade all fares is a part of it. Many on this board feel that upgrading with SWUs became much harder, greatly reducing the value of SWUs (and making it much riskier to buy a higher fare to gamble on an upgrade clearing).
For many, the ability to upgrade with SWUs is the main reason to go for 1K. The perceived deterioration of this benefit is the reason this thread is so long.
