I had a very pleasant stay at this property, and highly recommend it. We splurged (thanks to Accor certs) and booked a junior suite in the colonial building. This was roughly $500 per night. There are two separate buildings, the old one built around the patio that is the former convent, and the new one, built around a large swimming pool. the new one is steps beyond the old one. The hotel entrance is into the old building.

Our butler was introduced to us at the front desk and walked us to our room. In general, I'm sceptical about butlers, but this one was a value add. We wanted a DVD player in our room. He found one and brought in a larger TV. Despite what the website says, the room had a small CRT TV. It's housed inside an armoire, and replacing it with a flat panel TV means replacing that piece of furniture. He also proactively told my husband he would need long pants and closed toe shoes for La Vitrola, where we were dining that night.

Our room was comfortable, albeit with a mishmash of period furniture. We had a two story room on the third floor. Both floors had a full bathroom. The one on the lower floor had a walk in shower. The upper floor was open on both sides to the lower, so any light and noise was equally sensed on both floors. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the linens luxurious. Toiletries were L'Occitane Verbena. At turndown, you get a wonderful freshly made coconut candy. It was so good, we had the kitchen make up some boxes for which we paid. Internet is free if you bring your own computer. If you don't, you can get 15 minutes free in the business center.

We ate in the courtyard. There are two restaurants, we ate food from the more casual one. We had shrimp dishes that were superb. The food was as good as the Club de Pesce and La Vitrola, highly regarded restaurants in Cartagena, where we also ate. There is a wonderful bar, all in reds and whites, with masses of comfortable seating. There is live Cuban music at night.

The concierge was excellent, a young lady with the Clef d'Ors insignia. We booked a driver for a one hour tour. We were really glad we did so, as not only did he drive us thru the old walled town, but thru the new city as well. We paid $30. His name is Nico; his email address [email protected]. He was excellent.

The hotel is well located in a corner of the walled city. This area is very picturesque, with some small restaurants and shops, but not overrun with them. Some of the buildings are reminescent of the French Quarter in New Orleans, with the wrought iron balconies over the street.

You'll see reading up the thread I wondered about using multiple Accor vouchers here. It was no problem at all to do so.

Cartagena was our favorite stop of the three places we visited in Colombia. We also went to Bogota and Medellin. I would happily return, both to this hotel and to the town. Keep in mind that the town is parallel with Panama, so you will have tropical weather year round.
