I guess the thing about South Africa is you don't walk the streets at night, or very much at all. If you need to go somewhere get in your car and drive there. You need to keep your car doors locked and constantly be aware of your surroundings. This comes naturally to people who live in SA, but often tourists aren't aware of their surrounding and that's when they get into trouble.
