I moved here 3 yrs ago from LA. Live in Pretoria and work in JHB. Terrible stories exist and it is nonsense to suggest that LA, Houston etc are worse. Saying that with fairly simple precautions it is not too bad. Cewrtainly as a tourist you would have to do something stupid to be a victime. Downtown jhb not 100% but ok in the day.
