Interesting...when my grandfather died in 2007 I was in Europe and was told that I couldn't get the change fee waived because it was a grandparent. It might have been (a) I had already started the trip, (b) my particular fare rules didn't count grandparents, (c) rules have changed since then, (d) all/none of the above.
