Drinking Water - I AM LIVID!!!

I am at Schiphol at the moment, waiting to board a flight back to the UK.

On my way to the lounge I dropped into the Delicatessen, as is my usual habit, to buy a bottle of drinking water.

When I asked the cashier to seal it his response was:

"Not possible" (and yes, those were his very words)

I thought he was having me on, but apparently not - Schiphol has now decreed that while customers can take whiskey, wine etc etc through security in sealed bags this no longer applies to water.

This is just absolutely CRAZY. (And I feel quite strongly about it because I'm on medication which causes my mouth to go very dry and it is essential that I have access to water pretty much at all times)

When did this insanity come in, and why? (The woman at the airport information desk was trying to tell me it's been like that for six months but she was clearly talking nonsense as I had no problem getting a bottle of water sealed last month)

There is no other airport in Europe, as far as I am aware, where passengers are prevented from taking water on board - the (relatively few) that I've been to where security is at the gate all have vending machines after security, or have the arrangement in place that Schiphol used to have, i.e., allow passengers to take water through security in approved sealed bags.
