The OP, if I read correctly, wants to not use a waiver to refund the ticket due to death, but rather to fly a route for which his fare is not eligible for. The answer to that, is a "no". UA will let you return product A for a death, but not buy product A and fly product B. That isn't a waiver, it is a different ticket.
