The T&C *does* say it's nontransferable, so YMMV.
I've been on this deal for a few years. Once I wanted to go to earning SPG points and I was told over the phone that the gold status was only applicable as long as I was getting US Airways miles instead of SPG points. Since I don't stay at SPG enough to get gold the old fashioned way I left the account alone.
