Indeed. Though it is hard to believe that someone would have upgraded a ticket 7 months out. Perhaps the OP should ask QR if there are any dates around his travel dates when an upgrade is available. Either they book into different classes, or QR doesn't want to release the upgrade inventory but allows full mileage awards to be booked.
I'll go and have a personal chat with the staff on one of my next flights..am already at +400 Qpoints now plus gold status from last year, so at least they can do me this small favor.
