The earliest I've arrived at a hotel and been given keys to a room was around 9am but (and it's a big but) I didn't expect it. I was ready to leave my bags and come back around normal check in time.
Anything is possible, but it if is important to have the room early, book the night before or see if the hotel offers early check in for a fee.
Totally agree with the excellent advice to follow up with the hotel before arrival to make SURE they are aware of the arrival time. Last thing I want 30 hours after leaving home is to find my reservation was considered a no-show...have the keys ready the very minute I enter the hotel
