Dear OP: absolutely follow the advice above. I'd recommend calling the front desk and getting the name of the person with whom you speak and confirm your early arrival time (or very late arrival time, depending on how one looks at it). The VERY LAST thing you'll want is to pay for the night before and show up and find that it's been sold or is no longer available.
(Believe me, this happens far more often than it should.)
Play it safe and absolutely make certain the hotel is fully aware of your plan.
