Have your Dad (or one of them in the travelling group) apply for the card (as based on the terms and conditions, they can't do it on yours).

Why even consider anything else? How could anyone could give you any other answer with any degree of certainty? The perk doesn't start until June 1 so no one has any experience with it. One of them getting a card is the only safe way to assure it.

But .... if you/they are willing to gamble and take a chance on getting stuck with paying the checked baggage fees .... wait and go for it.
