I understand and agree with the above, but what I don't understand is the notion that PPBM makes us appreciably safer. The screening process is what it is. Whether or not pax are separated from their bags is imho the least of our worries.
It doesn't make you safer - it is intended to make you (or possibly flyers less sophisticated than you)
feel safer. ("Oh, wow, Ethel. They won't let us stand by because we checked our bags. We have to ride on the same plane as our bags - that means terrorists have to ride on the same plane as their bags. What a relief.")
