Nothing wrong with the military. I have lots of friends who have lived all over the world, as has my brother-in-law. Decent pensions too, for those who retire early and start a second career at a relatively young age.

Another career, which I am told is in need of my folks these days, is the foreign service.

While not everyone can be a diplomat, at least not at the start of their careers, there are all kinds of foreign postings, at all levels, in government missions around the world.

If I was starting life over again I would take a serious look at doing that myself.
