Targeted. This came in the mail to me with my name and an 8-character confirmation code that I assume is specific to me.
Because you're a valued SkyMiles® member, Starwood Preferred Guest® (SPG®) and Delta invite you to enjoy complimentary Gold status in the SPG program — an elite level typically attained after 10 stays or 25 nights.
Earn additional miles with two exclusive, limited-time bonus offers.
In addition to the miles you earn for each stay, you can also earn 3,000 bonus miles for every three eligible nights — up to 9,000 bonus miles4 — from May 1 through August 31, 2010. And, you'll earn another 1,000 bonus miles per night — unlimited — when you stay at any of over 145 SPG participating Four Points® by Sheraton hotels worldwide.
Included is a cardstock SPG member Gold card with my pre-printed name and a space for me to write in my SPG number! "Member since 2010." I'm so excited! I've never had an SPG Gold card before!
This is almost the same offer as reported here last year, but it has a new set of dates, a new URL, and an additional 1k/nt bonus for stays at Four Points properties.

From the letter that came in the mail:
"
You're invited to enjoy a special travel privilege, courtesy of a partnership between Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) and Delta Air Lines -- complimentary elite Gold status in the award-winning SPG program."
@:-) As a former multi-year Delta Platinum Medallion member who has now dropped to completely non-elite status, I'd be way more interested in them giving me complimentary elite Gold status in an award-winning SkyMiles program.
"
Welcome to your premier path to more SkyMiles."
@:-) Thanks! Because it seems that I now need more SkyMiles than I used to for every award trip that I try to book.
A silly observation:
The letter and insert is clearly designed and sent by the SPG marketing folks. However, the return address on the back of the envelope is to Delta SkyMiles at ATL.
