None was taken and no apology is required, although it is appreciated.

I can see it from your point of view, although (and I'm just speculating) that by making such gestures in the short term BA will hold onto grateful customers in the long term thus making the company stronger. I would have assumed that this is the view that WW et al are taking because, as you said, there is no legislation (EC or otherwise) that commands them to pay my ludicrous hotel bill.

My wife and I already were very loyal to BA; this has cemented the 'deal'. We recently flew NCL-LHR-(bus)-LGW-JER and return because we couldn't bear FlyBe (NCL-JER). That's how nuts/loyal (delete as appropriate) we are.

While we are here, the man we dealt with in Special Services in LA was just unbelievable. I, of course, won't mention his details here - but for anyone who travels the LHR-LAX route often, you'll know who I mean if I say he's quite tall and slim with a beard. I have already been in touch with BA to congratulate him.

My wife and I aren't the type of passengers who would normally have anything to do with SS, but he was running the show when our flight was cancelled while sitting in the lounge, and we met him again 6 days later when he checked us in. He remembered us (we'd told him when we first met him where we lived and he mentioned he had relatives nearby. He made reference to it upon our second check-in) which I thought was most impressive, when you consider how many (more important) people he meets every day.

Due to a previous career in the media, I was on several local and national radio stations as a 'case study' of a Brit stuck abroad. In every interview I sang BA's praises, which were much deserved.
