It's not very glamorous but the auto industry can be quite good for international assignments. One former colleague is an engineer for an American company based in Germany. He and his family have spent the last 8 years in Japan, Thailand, and now China. Every time for a 3 year assignment with full expatriate benefits. Personally I'm based in France, but have been assigned to work in Germany, Italy, the US, Japan, South Korea, and India. Potential locations include Brazil, Russia, and Romania. Most assignments were 4-6 months for tax reasons, but some as long as 18 months which become more complicated for tax and visa requirements.
