How did you get him on the upgrade list were you on the same PNR or did you ask the GA to add him. If the GA added him the GA probably did it wrong and if you weren't on the same PNR he wasn't entitled to to the companion upgrade. New Delta policy requires it be the same PNR now. there was a discussion the other day.
