Definitely worth the extra 15k miles, for the seat, service, and FC lounge access in HKG (Pier, Wing). I personally don't find the J seats that comfortable.

I've flown numerous award tickets out of PDX going into SFO or LAX and have always had the flight included out of PDX to the gateway.
