In particular, the addition of DM has deprecated the value of MM. 1MM now gets you 4th tier elite status, 2MM only gets you 3rd tier, and 4MM only gets you 2nd tier. In a sense, million milers are fish that have already been caught and there's no good economic reason for the airlines to give them special treatment. Nevertheless it seems to me that the million miler programs are a really good barometer of how management views their best customers. Is management genuinely grateful for our business or are we merely a metric for calculating their paycheck.
