As a Diamond member I have no problem with a hotel not giving the benefits to a room if there is not a Diamond member there, regardless of the reason.
The hotel has to draw the line somewhere and no Dimaond member ever in the room sure seems like a reasonable distinction to me.

There were at least two threads recently essentially asking if non-status guests checking into the room booked by a Diamond could get guest benefits if the Diamond never shows up (one of them even mentioned the possibility of a missed flight as the reason).
There are no even some "auctioning off" their Diamond upgrade certs on cc in lieu for them to get a stay credit.
IMHO unless the account holder stays there shouldn't be ANY benefits or stay credits.
