Careers Involving Significant Time Abroad (not constant travel)?

I know there have been a multitude of threads on careers requiring frequent travel, but what about careers which involve living abroad for extended periods of time? I'm not necessarily talking "permanent," but for maybe months at a time.

For example I'm studying abroad in Tokyo right now (11 months). I attend university in Washington DC but I'm from California (so total 3 years in a different place). For grad school I'm considering a business program in the UK or Paris - there's another 1 or 2 years in an interesting place.

When I get a job, what options are available to me to be able to spend significant time in one place, enough that I can explore the culture & also use it as a base to travel around? I'm thinking Europe in particular.

Not sure exactly what I want to do yet, but I'm interested in international marketing, possibly with a focus on the entertainment industry. I'm not trying to base a career around travel, but around experiencing life abroad (and of course finding something I love to do).

Any input would be welcome!
