I just returned from quite an adventure....

* flew PHX-PHL-MAD on Sat May 8. No issues on PHX-PHL (we arrived nearly an hour early). PHL-MAD was diverted very far north to avoid the volcano (evidently we could have seen the volcano if we knew when), and it arrived about 2 hours late.

* I received an email Monday May 10 that my Tues MAD-PHL flight was cxl. After checking with some friends, they automatically rebooked me for today (5/12). However I didn't have much faith that the flight would go today. I got rebooked onto CO for 5/11 from LIS to EWR, then US EWR-PHX.

* I scrambled to get to the train station in Madrid (ended up at the wrong one first), but ended up getting the last seat on the night train to Lisbon. The incoming from EWR was delayed due to a fuel stop (I think at MAN), and our 10:30 AM departure ended up leaving close to 2 PM. We also had a fuel stop in GLA, and got into EWR around 10pm. When we were in GLA, I emailed and got confirmed on this morning's EWR-PHX, and also got a booking at the Hilton EWR.

All-in-all, things could have been far worse. And of course it looks like MAD-PHL today did indeed run, but doubtful I would have made a connection back to PHX.
