I don't think OP has been to HK before, or he wouldn't ask if he go to macau, then if he would miss the sightseeing in hk.

Basically OP will be in hk for 2.5 days, as OP wouldn't get in til late evening in the 1st day. Spending most of the day just for macau would only left 2 days for sightseeing, there are a lot more to see in HK for 2 days.

Also from OP's profile, he is based in the US, I would rather spend a short weekend trip to vegas from where he is from for the casinos, doesn't cost a whole lot, rather than come to hong kong for 2.5 days but still go to macau.
