I have also been looking for information of hotels around town. Of all the ones I have seen the ones I prefer after having seen their web pages are Intercontinental and Shangri La. We are not interested in beach or pools. How is their location? Noisy? Are they near the Corniche / City Centre?
These are both away from the city center -- Shangri-La is a gorgeous hotel near the airport. There isn't much there besides the beach and pool and on-site mini-shopping mall.

The InterContinental might be good for you -- it's in the city, but at the end of the corniche, so should be quiet, but also not really within walking distance of the city core.
