Some others who have flown the Rio-Florinopolis route will likely chime in. The two main airlines in Brasil ar TAM and GOL. I fly VIX to GRU and GIG to VIX all the time. The VIX-GRU is about the same length. Mostly use TAM. I expect it would be an A320 and regular economy only. You would get a drink and depending on time of day either some kind of snack or a hot ham and cheese on a roll. GiG-VIX is usually an A319. Same service on board. Occasionally I use GOL for VIX-GIG, and I think they have 737. Don't be surprised if it is flagged as Varig if you should use GOL. TAM offers each passenger some candy before departure, I have not seen GOL do this. May most recent TAM flight they displayed a map on the overhead video screens showing flight status and location. First time I have seen them do that. Another factor is TAM will become a member of *A on May 13, should that factor into your decision.

Flying twice a month on TAM for more than 2 years, I haven't had many problems. Most have been weather related. Only one cancellation due to mechanical and I was put on the next flight. Safety wise, they are about like any other major airline, IMO. TAM had an incident at the domestic airport in Sao Paulo a little over a year ago, where they lost a plane and lives and I think this was due to a combination of weather (rain) and one reverse thruster not working. GOL lost a plane in mid flight about 2 year ago now, ?i think. It came in contact with a private aircraft that was able to land safely.I'm sure you can find more info on both of these. Then again, compare that to Air France that lost the A330 several months ago over the Atlantic after leaving Rio.
