I flew IAD-DXB-BLR last Nov. DXB-BLR was on Emirates. The layover in DXB was less than 2 hours. It was a long walk from the international terminal to the EK terminal. Flying time for DXB-BLR was around 3.5 hours.

All in all a great experience. It was a revenue ticket for me, so I cannot comment upon the award question.
