There is another option: Use your award miles to fly to Dubai. Then buy a coach ticket on either Emirates or Jet. It is probably about $300 or less. Both are "partner carriers" which are affiliated with United, but not the star alliance. You might want to ask United of you can use a reward on those airlines. If you book the ticket to Dubai, you don't need to call. For everything else, you do.
