While you don't need any visa or entry permit, there is still plenty of additional typing into the computer and verification of documents when you're checking in coming back to the US.

Sorry to hear that. FWIW, that was not my experience. I've flown AY on tickets issued on AA stock, and on tickets issued on AY stock. Never felt any difference whatsoever, service was always pretty good. Last time I was put in row 7 (business class seat, but rows 6 and 7 were designated as economy on that day as they were severely overbooked in coach) flying HEL-JFK on a very discounted coach ticket (issued by AA).
