"You can:
dep ORD at 209p arr RDU at 457p
dep RDU at 630p arr LGW at 655a
dep LGW at 830a arr GIB at 1225p BA6902
For the return it seems to make the most sense to take the late flight out of GIB BA6907 arr LGW at 10:45p transfer to LHR that night, spend the night, and fly out in the morning on either AA99 or AA87 LHR-ORD.

Personally, I'd leave 5 hours earlier and take the service ORD-LHR arriving at about 22:30 , transfer to Gatwick and spend the night there at the hotel in the North Terminal or at the Hilton in the South Terminal. At 09:00 in ORD, before take off, I would phone BA and do the telephone check in to get the best seat available . In the morning, can just roll into the airport by 08:00 , check in at the self service check in and be away on the 08:30 flight ( 30 minutes is plenty of time to get through )
