thanks for the clarification. that sure isn't obvious on the AAdvantage site. certainly a rare case, where a non-partner-operated flight can be redeemed.

Per AAdvantage, AA and JQ do not (or perhaps did not, but do now or will soon?) have an interline e-ticket agreement and that is what triggers paper ticketing.
