Im a bit confused here since some people are saying their bags are being weighed at the ticket counter and others mention they are being weighed at security. Ive gotten by ticket counters with my normal rollaboard and computer bag all over the world. Last month, however, in JNB, when I approached the security, some airport contract worker weighed it and insisted on a tip to have it allowed through (yes it was over 8kg, but in my opinion that is not very heavy considering laptops, magazines, books, etc can weigh a lot).

My question: Is it better to book a Business Class ticket on QF if one has no oneworld status to avoid this extra scrutiny? I will be flying MEL-SYD-AKL-SYD-CNS-SYD hence am a bit concerned about the "degree" to which each station enforces the rules. My itinerary is so tight that one lost bag would never catch up to me in time so I only want to carry on.
