NZ has a better system, all elite FF cards have an RFID chip inside them, you get your seat allocation the usual way (online, kiosk, whatever) and then flash your wallet (with card inside) at the gate and it spits out a bit of paper with your seat allocation on it (so that you can tell someone to get out of your seat).

Saves hassles with phones dying, and so on. QF have announce they will be introducing a similar system sometime this year.
