On my last stay (during the volcano issue),seemed that all hotels were full in Singapore (at least the Sheraton), I checked in very late (midnight+), my reservation was done more than 1 month in advance. The lady at the counter took several minutes to check were to put me, ask me 2-3 times when I did the reservation, other people at the counter insisting they needed a room (volcano victims).
It was funny to see that the lady was not very happy with the upgrade she had to give me and handed the key without saying anything. I found out I was put in the Beijing suite^, very rare. But finally cracked the egg (no UG request/begging at check in, "automatically" upgraded to their best available room
