Indeed. In fact, most carriers do not require new money for change fees. Glad it looks like the more customer-friendly (and more industry-standard) approach is going to prevail in the COmbined COmpany.

It was just another invention by the beancounters in Houston. Some beancounter probably got an award for this policy since it generated cash up front, and caused breakage in on vouchers down the road.
Meanwhile, frequent travellers or those who change tickets frequently and were hurt by this policy took their thousands of dollars of business elsewhere.
But at least the innovative beancounter got to enjoy his staff award and $50 gift card to Red Lobster.
