I am neither an attorney, nor a frequent traveler. I am however, the OP here, so I'd like to add some thoughts (for what they're worth).

1. I won't be "doing this." (Since this thread is lengthy now, see post #1 to see what I was contemplating doing...if you don't know). In addition to any other valid reasons, it truly does seem like a lot of work for little reward.

2. I'm enjoying the philosophical/legal/moral discussion here. Question - if it were possible to "quantify ethics," (assuming you DO think this is ethically inappropriate), do the readers of this thread think it is MORE "harmful" to the airline to deprive them of an opportunity to sell a (last-minute) ticket by intentionally buying a refundable ticket with absolutely no intention of using it; than to the airline club by my entering under the false pretense that I am, indeed, "traveling?"
