Last time I was in OZ F, I was the only passenger(besides the resting pilot, of course) and I had extensive conversations with all three female FAs and the male purser. At least for Asiana, male pursers also work at their HQ and have office duties. The gentleman who was the purser(mid 40s) on my flight said he hasn't flown in a while and he is expected to go on a trip/month.
I found some fasciating stuff that only Flytalkers would be interested in.
--KE FAs checks in at ICN. OZ FAs checks in at their HQ near Gimpo Airport and take a shuttle together.
--OZ discourage short hair styles among FAs. For a while it was okay, but lately shorter hair is no-no.
--OZ layover hotel in NYC is Sheraton Flushing and FAs hate it!
--First 2 years as a flight attendant you have to share a room at hotel
--No control over their schedule(typical Asian carrier) but usually one US/Europe, 1-2 SEAsia and several Japan/China trips per month
--Even among female FAs, very hierarchical rank among them. This is very Korean thing. Among three FAs working in F, I've heard the youngest one(kitchen duty) responding to the Sr FA very politely.
--In order to work F cabin, need at least 6yr exp and pass a course/test
--Pax are not allowed in galley and no "socializing" with pax
--All the FAs speak basic conversational Japanese
Needless to say these FAs were just wonderful and so personable. ^
