This has probably been asked somewhere before. If I downgrade my Plat to the Gold card, will anything change in my ability to earn membership rewards points?
A couple of things I can think of are the 4X bonus points mall and the 2x gas and groceries.
Not too concerned about the other benefits since have not used most of them lately, but I do want to keep earning MR points, since this is primarily what I use for air travel. Will I lose the ability to transfer points to airlines by going Gold?
And of course the MR points balance itself will stay intact right?
If you get the Premier Rewards Gold card you will actually accrue more MR points than with your Platinum, other than at the bonus points mall. You get 3X on airfare, 2X on gas/groceries, 1X on everything else + 3X at the bonus points mall. Spend $30K/yr, and you'll get 15,000 bonus MR points. All this for the life of the card. Yearly fee is $175.
The other gold card, the Preferred Rewards Gold, for $125/yr, is not worth the fee, in my opinion, since it doesn't have any of the 3X/2X MR multipliers or the yearly 15,000 bonus points.
Transfer partners to airlines remain the same and your MR account balance shouldn't be affected.
