If it is a Canadair then you will pick it up plane side in MSP before going to your connecting flight (your roller will be tagged at the gate in Chicago with a pink tag for plane side pickup). If it is a Embraer 175 then you should be able to bring it on-board.

Once you clear security in Chicago for your initial flight you should not need to re-clear security in MSP.

Since you have a few hours in MSP, eat at Ike's and order the Grasshopper or Pink Squirrel^ Their food isn't bad either
