i'm definitely letting amex know re: old vs. new. beveling the edge is 1) more practical in a card holder 2) aesthetically pleasing
i figure they must have cut down on manufacturing cost. with the new cards, they can just punch out a sheets at a time without having to mill. more cost cutting: they used to include a prepaid ups 2 day air cushioned envelope with tracking for old card return/disposal. now it's just a regular usps prepaid security envelope without tracking. i just don't find any security in sending back my old card when anyone could snatch it en route. (the numbers are the same - only diff is exp date and security code)
what baffles me is the amount paid in annual fees, not to mention the fee hike for new initiates. that alone should cover postage. imho
i miss the old centurion pre 2007. nicer card. better service. domestic companion tix. less hassle altogether.
