Well, I am not so certain that I would say the "system" is smart enough to know. If I were to won the DL AmEx and I were looking to have baggage fees waived, I would certainly carry the card with me, even if DL says I didn't have to.
Looks like DL is responding in-kind to competition from CO, which has a similar offer.
Can't say it is a reason for me to own this card, considering the annual fee, the fact that I personally get free luggage now and the fact that I don't travel with others often enough. But it is a nice gesture.
