I need help with the following.. actually need clarifications since am getting confused between the two maps in the swiss transport site.. one of Swiss pass area of validity (
http://www.swisstravelsystem.ch/file...-10-EN-WEB.pdf) and another the swiss pass scenic routes map (
http://www.swisstravelsystem.ch/file...M-08-enLOW.pdf)..
Queries :
1. Is it possible to go from Zurich to Romanshorn directly by train ?? ( One map shows tht there is a line, the other does not show any line)..I guess there is a line but maybe not that scenic ?? Kindly advise if u know abt it..
2. Is a 1st class pass reqd for travel in William Tell express.. Also between Goschenen and Airolo its marked 50% ?? so does it mean we need to further pay some amt for this route.. This route is on way to Locarno after visiting Rigi Kulm in the morning .
3. Have seen a lot written abt Bernina express and this is another option .. I checked the maps and between Preda and Beverits marked 50% ?? so does it mean we need to further pay some amt for this route..
4. Interlaken-Visp-Zermat --This route is also not completely free as per the maps.. Do we need to pay another surcharge for this between Interlaken and Visp ?? Even if we take the route advised (Locarno - Zermatt) I see that there is a surcharge between Domodossola and Brig ..?? Is this so ?
5. Is travel on the glacier express always with a surcharge and seat reservation ??
Hmmm.. I know many queries above.. but what do I do.. so many opinions, so many places and only 4 days
thanks for ur help and advise as always...
cheers

For 1. yes it is possible by direct train and there are also routings with several changes. Go to sbb.ch/en and put in routings (as I suggested in an earlier message).
For 2. The entire Gotthard line (including Gosh. to Airolo) is free with all passes valid in Switz. The trip from Gosh. to Andermatt is in general valid with the Swiss Pass and not a Eurailpass.
For 4. With s Swiss Pass the entire route is valid with a Swiss Pass. The Italian Section between Domodossola and Locarno
is valid with a Swiss Pass--no surcharge.
For 5. The full Glacier Express does require a reservation. But there are several trains which cover the same routing, but you don't ride in equipment marked GE. Experiment with routings at sbb.ch/en.
For specialized trains, do a separate search at google.com and you will get more detailed info.
The map can get confusing as the Swiss
Card as opposed to the Swiss
Pass has different rules.
Since you have limited time to see lots of scenery, boat rides should be kept to a minimum.
Each (large) city has pocket sized schedules listing routings to major cities, these are very convenient to have--but you can only get these when you arrive in Switz.
But (again at sbb.ch/en) there are other options for seeing (and printing) regional schedules.
