It's all self-service, they snap at you, but of course also have a large bucket for tips. The burger and fries were better than MickeyD's, but three times as good?
I'm not one of the people who recommended this establishment so I see no reason to defend them. I do echo a comment below that if you didn't like your experience you had several levels of redress available such as:

1. Restaurant manager;
2. Hotel Manager
3. Hotel owner (yes, there is a Parker); or if 2 and 3 do not apply,
4. Restaurant owner.

Again, the FT New York City forum members who complimented this restaurant in the past may possibly have more suggestions.

Let's break this down.

First, New York City is emphatically NOT "filled with places like this." If those are the places you keep visiting, then stick around, read the threads, ask some questions and maybe you'll find some better places. Or, you prefer, try Chowhound, Zagat, Yelp or lots of other boards.

Second, never in my life have I told anyone, "It's New York, if you live here you deal with it, so you can too." I think that is a jackass statement to make on so many levels. A New Yorker should be ashamed to make such a comment.

I don't put up with these things at all, but thanks for your advice.

By the way, when I was last in San Francisco, I got sick after dining in one of your so-called "top restaurants" and when I called the "health department" restaurant unit, they were insulting, dismissive and refused to do anything.
