Sorry to disagree but AA does have a special fare for infants at 50% off whatever fare the accompanying adult pays. This guarantees the infant a seat. Most other major carries have a similar fare. The ticket designator for this fare is INF50.

Of course, you can also take the infant for free with no guarantee of a seat.

The infant must be under two for both of the above.
