It's best to contact reservations to ensure a proper purchase. If the child is under 2 years old you'll have to have a car seat if you don't do the lap thing. The child will be seated against the window to ensure the seat doesn't block other passengers. Also, they won't allow a child to be seated in an exit row. These are my experiencing whilst flying with my son.
