Update: A Continental representative just called me back at their initiative and told me that they followed up on my request and can indeed process the upgrade request. She said that they will re-issue the ticket on Continental stock and then process the upgrade request. She apologised for the misinformation I was given earlier. Kudos to Continental for following up on this behind the scenes on their own and keeping me informed.
